Clinical Supervision & Personal Therapy
Clinical Supervision:
I provide Clinical Supervision to therapists, primarily MSW RSWs and Registered Psychotherapists. Most have their own private practices, either part-time or full-time, or are seeing complex client situations in an employment setting and would like experienced, confidential Supervision to enhance their clinical work.
I work remotely via phone or encrypted video (Signal) with therapists across Ontario.
Clinical Supervision with me includes:
Your getting to debrief and talk about your client work, gaining clarity and insight as you do so;
Discussing together and naming the core issues and dynamics occurring within the client and in the therapy process itself;
Clarifying a focus for the client’s therapy and setting priorities or stages for the work;
Brainstorming interventions, approaches and strategies that will be effective, given your intuition and knowledge of the client;
My sharing with you specific ideas of what I would say and do in the client situation at hand.
I believe that high quality Supervision has important ingredients: An experienced Supervisor who has valuable, effective ideas that you can immediately implement in your client work (as well as integrate into yourself for future clients), a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative relationship, discussions that are curious, exploratory, and enjoyable, and a takeaway plan of action with concrete clinical ideas.
I also believe in mentoring my supervisees, which means that I am invested in your growth and success, I am in your corner and committed to your development as a therapist, and I see and reflect back to you your strengths and good work.
As an integrated aspect to Clinical Supervision, I also provide as-needed professional career advice: growing your private practice, identifying your ideal clients and desired area(s) of specialization, clarifying your career focus and goals, and quality policy and administrative solutions for your private practice.
Practical Info:
Supervision sessions are 60 minutes in length. The fee is $180.00 per session (with no additional HST).
Frequency of meetings is flexible, and can vary depending on your felt level of need for your practice. Most Supervisees see me approximately every 2 to 3 weeks.
I can also be available for 30-minute or 60-minute meetings on an as-needed basis in between scheduled sessions should an unexpected or time-sensitive client situation arise, or a difficult situation has emerged that you feel a need to debrief prior to our next session.

Personal Therapy for Therapists:
It is enormously beneficial and very important for therapists to undertake their own therapy.
First, it helps to have a supportive outlet in order to restore our energy and wellbeing, so that we can be fully present in our work with clients. Compassion fatigue, burnout, and vicarious trauma are real occupational hazards, and it’s important that we care for ourselves to protect against the wear and tear of these effects.
Of course, we are all human beings too and have our own histories. Recovery, self-insight, and self-strengthening from past experiences are important, and help to make us more effective therapists, in manifold ways.
Finally, many of us in the profession tend to be empaths, which is why we became therapists in the first place. Empaths tend to be more powerfully internally affected by stress, conflict, and the negative emotions of others. I call being an empath “a gift to be managed”. It is doubly important to care for ourselves when we tend to absorb and carry the feelings and experiences of others.
